At Crusoe Treasure, we believe that every wine has a story, but before the palate discovers it, the eyes are the first to read it. A wine’s colour is far more than an aesthetic matter: it is a signal, a promise, a clue to what is to come. In our underwater winery, where innovation is immersed in respect for nature, every hue reflects not only the grape variety and winemaking method, but also our commitment to a different, more conscious form of viticulture, connected to the sea.
Why does a wine have that colour and not another?
A wine’s colour is formed through the interaction of various factors, such as:
-
The grape variety: red grapes contribute anthocyanins (reds, purples and blues), while white grapes contain flavonoids (yellows and greenish tones).
-
The winemaking process: from the length of time the must remains in contact with the skins to the type of fermentation and its temperature.
-
The passage of time: ageing —whether in barrel, bottle or, in our case, beneath the sea— subtly transforms the hue, turning a young red wine terracotta or leading a white wine towards gold.
A vibrant palette of hues
Each category of wine has its own colour spectrum, but at Crusoe Treasure we are interested in colour not only as a technical characteristic, but also as an artistic expression of our underwater wine ecosystem.
Whites that shine like the sun on the surface
They may be made from white or red grapes, provided prolonged contact with the skins is avoided. At our winery, we work with varieties such as Albariño, seeking freshness, minerality and that Atlantic spark that only the sea can enhance.
Reds with depth and mystery
Here, colour is extracted from the grape skin, and the longer the contact is maintained, the more intense and darker it will be. In our range, each red reflects the personality of its variety, but also the character of ageing in an environment found nowhere else on the planet: beneath the sea.
Orange wines: a white soul with a rebellious spirit
These wines break the mould. They are made like red wines, but with white grapes. Our Sea Legend Nº10 pays tribute to this ancestral technique, with a unique personality that underwater ageing elevates to another level. Amber, salinity, structure... an unforgettable experience.
Sparkling wines born beneath the sea
Effervescence transforms colour into something even more magical. Our sparkling wines undergo their second fermentation beneath the sea, a technical challenge we have perfected over the years. The result is a vibrant wine, with brilliant reflections and fine bubbles that seem to tell secrets of the ocean.
Seeing wine through different eyes
At Crusoe Treasure, the colours of wine speak to us not only of chemistry or processes. They speak of time, origin, terroir... and the sea. Observing them before tasting is the first step towards connecting with the liquid story contained in every bottle. It means looking beyond the glass and discovering a universe where wine and the ocean write their story together.
