Do you want to discover how our underwater wines are preserved?
As a wine lover or as a consumer of new and different experiences, you may have some of our underwater wines in your collection and have wondered how Preserve it without losing all its authenticity . You may have wondered whether you should follow the same storage guidelines as wine aged solely on land to maintain its full flavor, aroma, and color, or whether the lifespan of underwater wine actually changes completely once it leaves the sea. To answer all your questions, we'll explain in this post:
- Location : You should find the ideal place to store your wines. Ideally, keep them in a wine refrigerator, at a constant temperature and with very little light. If your home doesn't have such a place, the best option would be to store them in a climate-controlled cabinet or, failing that, in a dark cabinet located in a cool corner of the house, such as a basement or on the ground floor. However, you should keep in mind that the kitchen is usually one of the worst places to store wines due to vibrations, noise, and heat fluctuations, making it the least suitable location.
- The temperature: The temperature should be as constant as possible. We recommend keeping white wines at 12°C and red wines at 15°C.
- Humidity: As with temperature, it's equally important to monitor the relative humidity of the room, as relatively low humidity can cause the cork to dry out and deteriorate, allowing air to enter the bottle. Our recommendation is to maintain a relative humidity between 65% and 75%.
- Light : Wines should preferably be stored in a dark place to prevent their degradation from accelerated by direct exposure to light. This affects both natural and artificial light.
- Bottle position: Bottles should be stored horizontally. This allows the wine and cork to be in constant contact. It is recommended not to move the wine bottle once it is stored. Avoid shaking or abrupt movements to allow the wine to settle and develop as naturally as possible.
- Life of our wines: Today, the analytics that are performed Antonio T. Palacios indicates that under these conditions, red wines can last up to 10 years without problems, and white wines between 5 and 7 years. Beyond that time, it will depend on each wine and how we have stored the bottle. Our recommendation: the wines are excellent for consumption today, but if you prefer, you can store them for 5 or even 10 years, and the wine will improve naturally.
- And once the wine is opened? Once we've opened a bottle of wine, if we're not going to finish it all at once, we can store white wine in the refrigerator. First, we should minimize contact between the wine and the air contained in the bottle to prevent oxidation; we can do this with a vacuum pump. For red wine, we should store the bottle in a cool place, uncorked, for a maximum of a couple of days. But you'll be surprised to find that our wines, once the cork is removed and kept in a cool place, open, even two days after opening, improve even more... check it out ;).
Generally speaking, preserving one of our underwater wines is not much different from preserving a wine aged on land, which makes it easier to consume. Once you've followed these steps, you can enjoy the experience of tasting a Crusoe Treasure wine and experience for yourself the unique characteristics our underwater storage process gives it.
