Today is World Tourism Day

World Tourism Day is celebrated every 27 September to raise awareness of the importance of this sector for its enormous cultural, economic, political and social implications.

This year, the theme “Tourism for Inclusive Growth” has been adopted to highlight the severe social and economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and how the revival of tourism can help drive economic recovery and growth, all while leaving no one behind. There is no doubt that getting to know other places and cultures is a totally enriching experience that allows us to broaden our horizons and perspectives.

Origins and history

It was in 1979 when the newly created World Tourism Organization established International Tourism Day on 27 September, though being celebrated for the first time a year later, in 1980, to commemorate the approval of the statutes of this international body for the promotion of Tourism.

How to celebrate World Tourism Day

Tourism has many forms and variations, such as adventure tourism, ecotourism, cultural tourism, and wine tourism among others.
According to the Global Conference on Wine Tourism, wine tourism is an ideal tool to promote the practice of responsible and sustainable tourism, thanks to the many possibilities it represents and its strong commitment to rural tourism and sustainability by providing more value and employment in many regions of the world.
We certainly believe that there is no better way to get to know the richness of a place and learn from it, than to experience it through contact with its inhabitants, its festivals and gastronomy.
