World Book Day
Promoted by UNESCO since 1995, April 23 is celebrated the World Book and Copyright Day.Coinciding with the death of Miguel de Cervantes, William Shakespeare and Inca Garcilaso de la Vega on a day like today in 1616, this international celebration seeks to promote reading and remember the importance of the intellectual property law. This day also coincides with the birth and death of other representative authors such as Maurice Druon, Haldor K. Laxness, Vladimir Nabokov, Josep Pla, Manuel Mejía Vallejo and William Wordsworth.
From Crusoe Treasure, we want to recommend our book selection so that you can celebrate this day by pairing Crusoe Treasure wines with marine-themed books.
WHALES – Secret life (Mosquito Books) – Rena Ortega
Our biologist Anna Riera presents this self-gift for Sant Jordi. A book about whales that in addition to including scientifically correct texts is a very graphic book accompanied by beautiful illustrations. Anna, whose attraction to whales increased when she was working on whale watching in the Azores, recommends this book for both adults and children. “My children are fascinated and surprised by all what they are discovering.”
PORTUKOPLAK Itsas kantak eta poemak (Elkar) – Kirmen Uribe
Ainhoa Etxano, from her tourism perspective, recommends this anthology of songs and poems in Basque. The book includes everything from ancient songs to poems from the 21st century, combining treasures from the oral tradition with written poems. As the title indicates (Harbor songs), the works revolve around the port, portraying the customs of coastal life. Along with the verses, landscapes, towns and representative elements of the Basque coast are illustrated. “A compilation that allows us to remember childhood songs and discover unknown poems“.
PIRATES (Montana) – Dugald Steer
Adrián Pascual, in charge of marketing, invites you to immerse yourself in the life of pirates. This book reveals to the reader the symbols of the flags, the main naval routes, the proper functioning of the logbook, as well as a guide to tie knots, navigation tools, and other curiosities such as the animals on board. The author also does not forget the great pirates such as Arabella Drummond, Francis Drake or Barbarossa, whose history is also related. All this accompanied by maps and illustrations that facilitate the understanding of pirate life.
BERMEO, LA TIERRA CONTRA EL MAR (Ediciones Atlantis) – Karlos Goitia
Our skipper, Javi Ortega, recommends this book about Bermeo, his home town, a fishing village on the Basque coast strongly related to the sea. The story combines both fiction and historical events that occurred at the time narrated. In addition to narrating the strong character of its inhabitants conditioned by the environment and the land, themes such as love, disputes, honour and revenge are also included.
Once you have your book, find your time to read it calmly, while enjoying a glass of wine
